Frank Shaw, Viola
Appalachian violist Frank Shaw enjoys a career rich with chamber music, orchestral playing and teaching. In the 1990s, he studied piano, violin, and percussion; by the turn of the century he had graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy as a viola student of David Holland. In the following years, Shaw earned diplomas from the Cleveland Institute of Music and New England Conservatory as a student of Jeffrey Irvine and Martha Katz; in the summers, he was seduced by chamber music while attending the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, Taos School of Music, and Music@Menlo.
Currently a resident of Jamaica Plain, MA, Shaw is a founding member of A Far Cry, as well as the Brando and Luna String Quartets. Recently, he traveled to Argentina, England, Korea, Mexico, and the Philippines for performances, teaching, and seminars.
