Carlos Galvan
Chair
Carlos Galvan founded and served as president of Preferred Technologies Group, Inc., in Lebanon, NH, a computer software development and consulting firm specializing in recreational and medical management systems. A graduate of the University of Hawaii, where he studied political science and business administration, Mr. Galvan’s business experience ranges from sales and management at the NCR Corporation, to raising capital for international mining interests, to real estate development. A specialist in startup organizations and capitalization, Mr. Galvan has been a principal in the Carlin Development Company, Mountain States Associated Companies, and the Kalamath Group, companies specializing in the financing and development of real estate, mining, and investments. Mr. Galvan serves on the Boards of Directors of the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire and the Handel Society Foundation in Hanover, NH, and on the Board of Overseers for Lebanon College.
Alan Austin-Nelson
Vice Chair
Alan Austin-Nelson was born in New Britain, Conn., and educated at Middlesex School in Concord, Mass. In 1953, he served two years in the 11th Air Borne Division during the Korean War. In 1960, he graduated from Yale University where he majored in English and Classics. At Princeton University he pursued graduate study in 18th Century Literature. He started a career in teaching at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass. He then taught English at Dartmouth College where he was also Assistant Dean of Freshmen. Subsequently, he taught for many years at Middlesex School. Upon his retirement, he returned to Hanover where he currently lives with his wife, Marilyn Austin-Nelson. Their home, with a garden-scale train and two pianos, has become a site of community musical activity.
Gerard R. Hoar
Treasurer
Gerard R. Hoar is a Certified Public Accountant with offices in Hanover, N.H. He has over 30 years experience in both local and international accounting firms and specializes in income tax related matters. Mr. Hoar is a 1978 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He is an avid skier and lives in New London, N.H., with his wife, Marty, and two daughters, Emily and Lindsay.
Sean Hunley
Secretary
Sean Hunley is the founding director of the Cultural Center at Eagle Hill, a performing arts center in rural central Massachusetts housed within Eagle Hill School. There, he has worked with key colleagues to build full seasons of public programming that complement the school program while drawing audiences from over 200 zip codes, together with a student internship program, artist residency program, and thriving art gallery. His professional interests include exploring how cultural organizations and schools can work together to connect young people, artists, and new audiences in fruitful ways—a passion that began while working on urban revitalization initiatives in Lynn, MA, and continued through his tenure at International Christian School in Hong Kong, where he established the drama program and forged partnerships with two Hong Kong arts institutions that confirmed and deepened his hunch about the mission overlap between arts centers and schools. At the Harvard Graduate School of Education, he was able to pursue these ideas more thoroughly while completing his Ed.M., before finally implementing many of them in his current position. Sean resides in Hardwick, MA, with his wife Jo and three young children.
Lisa P. Kable
Lisa Kable is a classically trained consumer-products marketer, general manager, and entrepreneur with 20 years of global marketing and management experience in consumer durables and packaged goods companies including Quaker Oats (Gatorade), James River (Dixie), and Remington Products (shavers). Currently, she is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Artemis Woman, LLC, a consumer products company that develops, manufactures, and sells home spa beauty tools through mass market retailers including Bliss, Wal-Mart, Target, and HSN. She is recognized as an innovator, thought leader, and creative problem solver in developing, growing, and managing consumer businesses. She is a 1990 cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College where she completed a major in Chinese language and culture.
Margaret (Peggy) Little
Peggy Little moved to the Upper Valley (Etna) with her husband and four children in 1972. There she raised her family, sheep, chickens, horses, and a garden, and worked on political causes. She has served on a variety of boards over the years: UVYS, "Christmas in October," United Way, Dartmouth Hitchcock Visiting Nurses, AVA Gallery. She was a founding member of Good Beginnings in 1987. In 1989, the Littles moved to Lyme, where Peggy and two partners created Long River Studios, an art/craft cooperative. She continues community work on the board of Friends of Lyme Library, Open Fields School, and the Lyme Democrats. There are now 10 grandchildren to watch grow and tend.
Susan Pepin
Susan Pepin, M.D. is Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics, Chief of Diversity, and Director of Neuro-Opthalmology at the Dartmouth Medical School. Pepin was born and raised in Connecticut, under the influence of a musically talented mother and grandmother. She studied at Yale and then Oxford before going to medical school and completing most of her training in eye surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Her husband is from Australia and she’s enjoyed living “down under” as well. At Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, she practices medicine and enjoys teaching medical students. She loves raising her five daughters in the Upper Connecticut River Valley where they participate in many musical endeavors.
